Gunmen on Saturday shot dead a cleric, Pastor Kayode Ogunleye, in a forest along Aramoko-Ijero Road in Ekiti State.
A source said Ogunleye, who was also a farmer, had gone to his farm to harvest plantain when the incident happened.
“The man’s corpse was found in the forest on Saturday evening,” the source added.
Residents of Aramoko Ekiti, the headquarters of Ekiti West council, who suspected that the man was killed by armed herdsmen, described the murder of the father of five as “cruel and wicked.”
They called on security agents to fish out the murderers.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, Sunday Abutu, who confirmed the incident, said, “We are suspecting a murder case. Investigation has begun. While no arrest has been made, I am confident that the ongoing investigation will lead to the arrest of the culprits.”
