Euro Sports: Paul Onuachu nets brace, Iheanacho fires blank




Paul Onuachu scored a brace for Genk in their 4-2 win over Royal Antwerp in a Belgian topflight league game on Saturday.

It’s the third time the 26-year-old has hit a brace this season. The goals took his tally to 14 in 14 league games.

The lanky striker found the net in the 19th and 23rd minutes of the encounter as Genk set a new club record of seven wins in a row.

His compatriot, Cyriel Dessers, was also on the score sheet, netting the game’s fourth goal. Dessers replaced Onuachu in the 81st minute.

David Okereke was also on target in Club Brugge’s 1-0 win over St. Truiden on Saturday.

The goal was Okereke’s second in 10 appearances for the Belgian champions. The striker scored in the 57th minute, three minutes after replacing his compatriot, Emmanuel Dennis.

Also on target in the Belgian Jupiler was Ike Ugbo who grabbed a consolatory goal in Cercle Brugge’s 2-1 away loss to Oud-Heverlee in the Belgian league. The strike was his eighth in 13 appearances this term.

In the English Premier League, Alex Iwobi, featured for the entire duration of the game in Everton’s 1-1 draw at Burnley on Saturday. It was Iwobi’s 10th EPL appearance this season.

The duo Wilfred Ndidi and Kelechi Iheanacho both featured for 21 minutes in Leicester’s 2-1 win at Sheffield United on Sunday. Ndidi came on for Nampalys Mendy while Iheanacho replaced Ayoze Perez.

The game was Ndidi’s third this season while Iheanacho has made five EPL appearances for the club and he is yet to score in the EPL.
 
Semi Ajayi played 90 minutes as 10-man West Brom were humiliated 5-1 by Crystal Palace at the Hawthorns on Sunday.

Super Eagles target, Eberechi Eze, was impressive in the game, providing an assist for Wilfred Zaha’s second goal in the encounter – The Eagles’ fourth goal.

The trio of Ola Aina, Tosin Adarabioyo and Ademola Lookman, all clocked 90 minutes for Fulham in their 2-0 loss to Manchester City in the EPL. Aina and Adarabioyo started in defence but failed to ward off the Citizens.

In the Championships, William Troost-Ekong played all 90 minutes for Watford who lost 1-0 at home to Cardiff City. The loss has seen the Hornets fall to the seventh position on the log, an early setback to their EPL promotion hopes.

In Germany, Taiwo Awoniyi, found the back of the net in 10-man Union Berlin’s 3-1 away loss to Hertha Berlin in the German Bundesliga. The goal was Awoniyi’s second in eight league games for the club.

Defender Zaidu Sanusi scored his first league goal for FC Porto in their hard-fought 4-3 win over Tondela in the Portuguese league on Saturday. The Nigerian left-back opened the scoring for the hosts in the 4th minute. He has been capped seven times by the club in the domestic league.

In the Netherlands, Eagles goalkeeper, Maduka Okoye, was in goal for 90 minutes in Sparta Rotterdam’s 2-1 win over FC Emmen in the Eredivisie on Friday. Okoye has conceded six goals in five appearances keeping two clean sheets.

Leon Balogun played 90 minutes for Rangers who continued their good form in the Scottish Premier League with 4-0 away win at Ross County on Sunday. His Eagles teammate, Joe Aribo, saw 66 minutes of action before making way for Scott Arfield. Punch
