Antony Reveals Why Ajax are Stalling on His Transfer to Manchester United

The 22-year-old made a revelation to a transfer news expert, Fabrizio Romano in an exclusive interview. The outcome of the meeting between the journalist and player was posted on the official Twitter account of Fabrizio on Friday, August 26th, 2022.

Antony confirmed in the interview that he told Ajax in February 2022, that he wanted to leave the club. According to the player, it was the right time for him to explore other clubs after all the time he had stayed with the Dutch team.

Since February of this year, my agents came to Amsterdam to inform Ajax of my desire to leave the club to face new challenge and that some interested clubs would arrive and with them, certainly a great offer. In June of this year, I interrupted my vacation and came personally to inform the managers of Ajax, including new coach, about my wish to leave and that they should consider this possibility because it was a project for 2 seasons.

He confirmed to Fabrizio that Ajax offered him a new contract in June 2022 but he made it clear to the club that he wanted to leave.

During the window months, meetings continued and I also received a proposal from Ajax for contract renewal. I made it clear once again that I want to leave.
The winger also confirmed in the interview that Ajax’s reason for not allowing him to leave is because they will have just five days to replace him.

Today, in a meeting with the club, I expressed my old interest in leaving, only this time with a considerable offer on the table. Others had already arrived! Ajax refused with argument that they only have 5 days to replace me.
Manchester United submitted a bid of €90 million for the Brazilian but it was rejected by Ajax. According to reports, the Eredivise side are asking the Red Devils for €100 million.
