EPL: Manchester United ahead Arsenal in race for Osimhen

Manchester United are ahead of Premier League rivals Arsenal in the race for Napoli forward Victor Osimhen, according to reports.

The Nigeria international has been in impressive form for the Partenopei this season despite spending time on the sidelines due to injury.

Osimhen has so far scored 16 goals and provided five assists in 28 appearances across all competitions for the Blues this season.

The 23-year-old still has more than three years left on his current deal with the Blues, but there has been speculation surrounding his future in recent months.

The former Lille striker was also linked with a move to another Premier League club Newcastle United in January.

Arsenal were thought to be in pole position for the forward, but Manchester United, according to Corriere dello Sport are now leading the race for Osimhen.

Osimhen’s agent Roberto Calenda according to the report, has also held talks with Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis and sporting director Cristiano Guintolli over the player’s future.

Napoli would allegedly be prepared to sell the talented striker during this summer’s transfer window if they received an offer in the region of £67m. Dailypost

EPL: I was not happy at Arsenal – Willian opens up

Willian has admitted he was unhappy at Arsenal, in his first interview since leaving the club.

The Brazil midfielder agreed to terminate his three-year contract with the Gunners and has now signed for Corinthians.

His departure from the Emirates came only one year after he arrived on a free transfer from Chelsea.

Willian found the back of the net just once in 37 appearances.

The 33-year-old is now relieved to have put his time at Arsenal behind him.

“I really thought a lot, together with my family and close people. Unfortunately, my time at Arsenal was not good, I wasn’t happy at the club.

“I don’t need to go into details, but I wasn’t happy and I thought that returning to Brazil was the best option.

“I studied some other opportunities, but I wanted to return to Corinthians, to my home, to be close to my family. It’s the club that projected me to the world, revealed me. The right time to come back was this,” Willian told TV Corinthians. Dailypost

Europa League: Mikel Arteta given Arsenal sack warning after 1-1 draw with Slavia Prague

Arsenal legend, Martin Keown, has warned Mikel Arteta that he is in the danger of losing his job, following a 1-1 draw with Slavia Prague on Thursday.

The Gunners took the lead through Nicolas Pepe with four minutes left, but conceded a late equalizer in their Europa League quarter-final first leg at home.
Keown has now warned that Arteta is in danger of being sacked if things continue to go against Arsenal.

He said on BT Sport: “Hugely disappointing and really it’s going to be difficult now for Arteta.

“He’s made a lot of changes at the football club, a lot of people have been allowed to go, and this is his team now, essentially.

“There have been a lot of problems at Arsenal over a number of years, certain players coming in and out at the football club, so it’s not all at his doorstep.

“But he’s in charge now, and he’s not quite getting the reaction out of the team.
“He was disappointed at the end there. He’s encouraging people to play, then at the end when he doesn’t want them to play, it’s a mixed message, isn’t it?
“They’ve got to do the right things at the right times and they’re making sloppy mistakes and it cost them tonight.” Dailypost

EPL: Robert Pires claims Aaron Ramsey will return to Arsenal

Former Arsenal midfielder, Robert Pires, has predicted Aaron Ramsey will return to Emirates Stadium from Juventus in the near future.

Ramsey left as a free agent in the summer of 2019.

Since his departure, the Wales international has made 55 appearances for the Italian giants and helped them to Serie A and Supercoppa glory.

He is tied to a contract through to the summer of 2023, by which time he will be 32 years of age.

But Pires can see the Welshman heading back to Arsenal for a second stint.

Pires has told TuttoJuve: “He is very intelligent and knows how to adapt everywhere, Juve is a very big club and Serie A is improving him even more.

“He needs to stay a few more years and then he will return to Arsenal.

“It is my belief; I am not a fortune teller.” Dailypost

Arsenal’s Mesut Ozil completes Fenerbahce move

Arsenal midfielder Ozil has joined Fenerbahce on a three-and-a-half-year deal after last playing for the Gunners in March, both clubs announced on Sunday.

The 32-year-old German was omitted from Arsenal’s Premier League and Europa League squads this season and his reported deal on a weekly salary of £350,000 ($475,000) was set to expire at the end of the current camapaign.

“I’d like to thank the club for this amazing journey over the past seven-and-a-half years,” Ozil, who won the World Cup with Germany in 2014, said in a statement.

“Together we won trophies for the first time in years and created memories that will last a lifetime,” he added.

Ozil, who is of Turkish origin, was heavily criticised in Germany for posing for a photograph with Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in 2018.

Erdogan was also the best man at the player’s wedding in Turkey.

Ozil ended his international career after what he described “racist” attacks following the holders’ first-round exit at the 2018 World Cup.

Fenerbahce, one of Istanbul’s three big clubs, are currently third in the league behind Besiktas.

Ozil joined Arsenal from Real Madrid in 2013 and lifted the FA Cup on three occasions under then-coach Arsene Wenger.

After starting the first 10 games of Mikel Arteta’s reign as boss in north London, Ozil’s last appearance came in a win over West Ham last March before the coronavirus pandemic saw football grind to a halt last year.

“Mesut’s achievements at Arsenal are undisputed. It was a privilege to play alongside him and, more recently, coach him,” Arteta said on the club’s website.

“These successes will always be part of our history. We thank Mesut and wish him all the best with Fenerbahce.”

In December 2019, Arsenal also distanced themselves from comments Ozil made on social media criticising China’s treatment of the Uighur population.

Transfer: Arsenal approach Real Madrid to sign Odegaard

Arsenal have approached Real Madrid for attacking midfielder Martin Odegaard, according to Sky Sports.

Odegaard is eager to leave the Santiago Bernabeu in search of regular first-team football.

The LaLiga giants are currently considering the latest proposal from the Gunners.

Arsenal however face strong competition for Odegaard, including at least one other Premier League club.

Odegaard has struggled for game time under Zinedine Zidane this season, featuring just 12 times without scoring a goal.

The 22-year-old impressed while on loan at Real Sociedad last season, registering seven goals and nine assists across 36 appearances.

Arsenal manager, Mikel Arteta, is keen to bring in a creative midfielder this January, with Mesut Ozil out of the club. Dailypost

EPL: Why I’m struggling at Arsenal – Willian reveals

Arsenal winger, Willian, has revealed why he is struggling at Emirates this season.

Willian joined Arsenal last summer from Chelsea but has yet to recapture his previous stunning form at Stamford Bridge since joining the Gunners in August 2020.

The 32-year-old began brightly with a pair of assists on his Arsenal debut away to Fulham in the Premier League.

However, since Arsenal’s 3-0 win at Craven Cottage back in September, Willian has added just one more assist to his tally and is yet to score a goal for Mikel Arteta’s side, which has led to strong criticism from pundits and supporters.

But the Brazilian is now saying that he’s struggling because it was never easy changing clubs, especially after being at Chelsea for seven years before joining Arsenal.

“Well, it’s never easy changing clubs, especially after being somewhere for so long. I was at Chelsea for seven years before coming to Arsenal, and then you have a new club, new people, a new philosophy,’ Willian told Arsenal’s official matc hday programme.

“Things are different, so I’m still adapting, but I feel good, I have been learning a lot – a new footballing philosophy.

“Everyone is great here. I know I can improve a lot, and of course, my performances on the pitch can be a lot better.”

Asked why he’s so far been unable to produce his best form, Willian replied: “To be honest sometimes it can be difficult to explain.

“The first game was great for me, against Fulham, I felt I had a good performance and gave two assists. And then, I don’t know.

“I am always trying to do my best, sometimes things don’t go the way you want. You have to say it’s a part of football and a part of life. Sometimes you have good moments, other times you have bad moments, you have to learn from that.

“And right now, I know I’m far away from being at my best, but I’m determined to work hard and change this.” Dailypost

Transfer: Mesut Ozil speaks on ‘regrets’ about joining Arsenal

Arsenal midfielder, Mesut Ozil, has said he will never regret his decision to join the club.

Ozil moved to the Emirates from Real Madrid in a £42.5 million deal in 2013.

The German helped the Gunners clinch three FA Cups and a Community Shield and was named the club’s player of the season award in 2015/2016.

However, in recent years, Ozil’s role has diminished to the point where he has been excluded altogether by manager Mikel Arteta.

The 32-year-old was left out of Arsenal’s Premier League and Europa League squads this season and is now set to leave in the January window.

However, Ozil insists he will never be ashamed of his Arsenal career.

“Of course,” he replied on a Twitter Q&A session, when asked if he’s enjoyed his time with the club.

“There have been many ups and downs so far, but all in all I’ll never regret my decision to join Arsenal. And to be honest, the last couple of games before the corona break in February & March 2020 made [it] really a lot [of] fun.

“I’ve enjoyed that time a lot and I’ve thought we’re really on a very positive way. But after the break things unfortunately changed…” Dailypost

Arsenal to announce 4 deals this week

Arsenal is looking to secure the future of three players this week before the new season starts.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has agreed to a new three-year £250,000-a-week deal in principle.

The Gunners are hoping to announce it in the coming days, in what would be a big boost for Mikel Arteta.

The club will also turn down interest from Wolverhampton Wanderers in Ainsley Maitland-Niles.

Maitland-Niles has three years left on his current contract but could be in line for an extension.

Arsenal is also desperate to keep Emiliano Martinez and will also hand the Argentine goalkeeper fresh terms after Arteta picked him ahead of Bernd Leno for the Community Shield.

The Gunners are also close to completing a £27m deal for Lille defender Gabriel. Dailypost
