EPL: Roy Keane warns Manchester United over C Ronaldo

Former Manchester United icon, Roy Keane, has issued a firm warning to the club over their expectations regarding returnee Cristiano Ronaldo.

Ronaldo, a Real Madrid and Juventus legend, has netted four times in his first three games for the Red Devils.

Keane warned that other players must up their games alongside the Portugal captain if the Manchester based club is to be successful this season.

Cristiano Ronaldo scored his fourth goal of the season against West Ham United on Sunday, hitting the equaliser after the Hammers took the lead earlier.

“If you look during midweek, he struggled upfront without getting decent support or possession,” Keane said on Sky Sports.

“Man United have to be careful because Ronaldo’s come to the club, everyone thinks it’s just going to fall into place, the players still need to step up and do better than what they had in the one or two years, but he’s still a world class player.”

Meanwhile, speaking to DAILY POST about his expectations from the legendary Portugal international, Michael Olawale, a staunch fan of the Red Devils, said he expects the 36-year-old star to score at least, 30 goals for the club this season.

As DAILY POST earlier reported, Ronaldo left Juventus this summer and made a shocking return to Old Trafford where he spent 6 years earlier in his career.

He has scored four goals in three matches already and Olawale, an enthusiastic fan, said, “He will keep scoring goals game after game. No going back. Do I remind you that we’re talking about the greatest player of all time? I’m confident Ronaldo will score not less than 30 goals for United this season.”

The former Sporting Lisbon winger is now 36-year-old but Olawale does not see anything age has to do with it, adding, “Ronaldo is not an ordinary human being. He’s a strange kind of person. Don’t even talk about his age because he doesn’t like speaking about it. He is disciplined and takes care of his body in a way that many footballers wouldn’t dare.” Dailyost

C Ronaldo handed No. 7 at Manchester United

Manchester United have revealed that Cristiano Ronaldo will don his favourite No. 7 shirt for the 2021-22 Premier League season.

Ronaldo's blockbuster return to Old Trafford from Juventus was one of the biggest stories of the summer transfer window.

And the club have now unveiled his new shirt, inherited from Edinson Cavani, who switches to 21, as he awaits a second 'debut' with the Red Devils.

What was said?

"Manchester United can confirm that Cristiano Ronaldo will wear the iconic no.7 shirt after returning to Old Trafford," the club explained in a statement published on its official website.

"The Portuguese superstar famously wore the legendary shirt number during his first spell at United and we can now confirm that Ronaldo will have it on his back once again.

"In his first six seasons at the club, between 2003 and 2009, Ronaldo made 292 appearances and scored 118 goals, winning nine trophies including three Premier League titles and the UEFA Champions League.

"As we all know, the no. 7 is a special number in the history of United.

"It has previously been worn by club icons like George Best, Bryan Robson, Eric Cantona and David Beckham. Now, it returns to the man who succeeded Beckham in it, Ronaldo.

"Ronaldo inherits the number from Edinson Cavani, who wore the shirt last season and in our away win at Wolverhampton Wanderers last weekend.

"As our new signing is allocated no.7, El Matador will switch to no.21, the same number our prolific striker wears for the Uruguayan national team." (Goal)

Lionel Messi breaks Ronaldo’s record after winning Copa America

Argentina captain, Lionel Messi has broken an Instagram record previously held by his biggest rival, Cristiano Ronaldo, after winning the Copa America earlier this month.

Messi finally won on the international stage, as Albiceleste beat hosts Brazil 1-0 in the final of the competition.

Following that victory on July 10, Messi took to Instagram to celebrate their triumph, with a post.

It was a picture of him in the dressing room, holding the trophy alongside the caption: “What a beautiful madness! This is unbelievable! Thank you, God! We are the champions!”

As things stand, the photo has been liked more than 20 million times, thus making the image the most popular Instagram post ever posted by an athlete.

Ronaldo’s record lasted just under a year. The Juventus superstar had the most liked post on the photo-sharing site – a touching tribute to the late Diego Maradona after his death in late 2020.

Coincidentally, Messi’s own tribute to Maradona, someone he worked closely with in the international set-up, also featured in the top 20 most popular posts from an athlete, having been liked 16.4 million times, placing it 16th in the list. Dailypost

They are now nine points ahead of fifth-placed Chelsea with seven games left to play.

Man United finishing in the top four, means extra money will be made available to Solskjaer in the summer transfer window.

Pele reacts as C Ronaldo beats his official goal record

Cristiano Ronaldo has overtaken Pele as the leading goalscorer in world football and has posted about it on Instagram.

He scored a hat-trick as Juve beat Cagliari 3-1 in Serie A this evening and that took his goal tally to 770 official career goals.

Pele scored 757 official goals in his career, but Ronaldo decided to add the 10 unofficial goals that he also scored for the Sao Paulo state team and Brazilian military team.

He didn’t celebrate his achievement until after the Cagliari game and he explained that he had wanted to surpass even the unofficial tally before speaking about his new record.

Ronaldo says he has so much admiration for the Brazilian legend, just like many football fans around the world.

He then thanked everyone who helped him in the journey towards the goals that he has scored in his career so far.

Several past and present footballers reacted to the post and Pele himself also made a comment. He said:

“Thanks for the affection, Cristiano. As you said, history will never be erased, but it is a pleasure to see you overcome my record of goals in official matches. Keep making me smile!” (Juvefc)
