IPOB reveals names of alleged kidnappers in South East

The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has released names of alleged kidnappers in the South East.

This was contained in a statement signed by IPOB’s spokesman, Emma Powerful.

The secessionist group dissociated itself from the criminals, saying it had never been part of or behind the ongoing insecurity and criminalities in the region.

Powerful also made it clear that the group is working towards exposing those behind the ongoing criminalities in Anambra, Enugu, and Imo states.

“In Abia State particularly, a certain Nkechi Kalu and her gang of about eight kidnap members operating between Abia State and Igweocha, Rivers State are not IPOB members, they and their activities should not be associated with ‘IPOB family’ membership.

“In Enugu State, a certain group of criminal elements turned themselves into enemies of the people, the names of their gang leaders are as follows; Chocho and Mazi Ejiofor; [they] are not IPOB members and anybody associating with them is a confirmed criminal,” the statement read in part.

He added that “the above-named persons who were formerly IPOB members were expelled as a result of indiscipline and insubordination which is not tolerated by IPOB leadership.”

Tension in Abia as soldiers reportedly ‘gun down’ suspected IPOB members

Personnel of the Nigerian Army have reportedly gunned down militants of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) during a gun duel around the palace of Eze Aro in Arochukwu Local Government Area of Abia State.

It was gathered that the incident occurred on Thursday when some youths were said to have stormed the streets celebrating the appearance of the IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu at the Federal High Court Abuja.

A security source told DAILY POST that about five persons were gunned down during the gunfire which aroused tension in the area.

Details of the incident are still sketchy as at press time as the army is yet to react to the report.

The spokesman of the state’s police command, SP Geoffrey Ogbonna, who said he would not speak for the army, confirmed the clash between the suspected IPOB members and some soldiers.

DAILY POST had reported that the secessionist was at the Federal High Court in Abuja on Thursday for the continuation of his trial over allegations of terrorism and treasonable felony.

His request to be moved from the Kuje Correctional Centre from the Department of State Service, DSS, facility to Kuje correctional center was, however, turned down by Justice Binta Nyako who adjourned the case to November 10.

Sit-at-home: Angry Villagers beat to death suspected IPOB leader in Imo

The Imo State Police Command on Monday confirmed that an angry villagers have beaten to death a suspected leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Obinwanne Iwu, 34-year-old from Ahiara in Ahiazu Mbaise Local Government Area of Imo State.

According to the State Commissioner of Police, Hussani Rabiu told newsmen in Owerri, the incident happened in Oru Ahiara in Ahiazu Mbaise Local Government Area in the state.

The CP said the angry villagers were infuriated because Iwu and the members of his gang were forcing them to close their shops and obey the sit-at-home order issued by the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB.

The Police added that the angry villagers on sighting the security operatives they fled to an unknown destination.

According to the Police, “On 20/09/2021 at about 07:45hrs, while residents of Umuagbavo Oru Ahiara in Ahiazu Mbaise Local Government Area of Imo State, came out of their houses for their daily business activities. Shops were opened and people were going about their lawful businesses.

“When one Obinwanne Iwu ‘m’ age 34 years, a native Ahiara in Ahiazu Mbaise LGA of Imo State, an escapee of Imo Correctional Centre Owerri and a member of the proscribed IPOB/ESN terror group, came to the market with members of his gang attacking, looting opened shops and forcing people to lock up their shops and preventing them from doing their legitimate businesses.”

“Shouting at the top of their voices today is Monday and everybody must obey the sit at home order “. This did not go down well with the people who resisted it in its entirety.

“In the pandemonium that ensured, angry mobs in their numbers held the leader of the gang, one Obinwanne Iwu tied his hands behind, while others fled the scene into hiding. In the process, he was mercilessly beaten to death, before the police patrol team arrived at the scene.  Efforts made by the police patrol team to arrest the perpetrators proved abortive as they all fled the scene on sighting the patrol team.”

However, the Commissioner of Police has condemned “The barbaric act,  advised members of the public to always hand over suspects to the Police for proper investigation and prosecution. Instead of taking the laws into their hands, he then set up an investigating team from the State Criminal Intelligence Investigation Department (SCIID) of the command to commence investigation into the mob action.”  Vanguardngr

Biafra: Stop collaborating with Buhari govt against our members – IPOB warns Ghanaian President

The Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, on Wednesday, warned the Ghanaian President, Nana Akufua Ado, to stop collaborating with the Nigerian Government to suppress those agitating for Biafra.

IPOB said the Ghanaian Government should stop harassing and torturing its members resident in Ghana.

Emma Powerful, the spokesman of the separatist group, issued the warning in response to the alleged arrest of 82 IPOB members in Ghana.

Powerful claimed that some IPOB members were arrested in Ghana during a meeting.

He disclosed that while some of those arrested were deported to Nigeria, the whereabouts of some were still unknown.

In a statement, Powerful said: “The attention of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) ably led by our great leader Mazi Nnamdi Kanu has been drawn to the arrest, intimidation, harassment and incessant torture and humiliation of Biafrans living in Ghana by Ghana government and its security agencies.

“It’s quite unfortunate that the Government of Ghana has made itself a willing accomplice to the oppressive Fulani -controlled Nigerian Government to suppress the agitation for Biafra restoration. But BIAFRA is irrepressible no matter how hard the enemies try!

“We still remember the role by Ghana during the genocidal war unleashed to the good people of Biafra between 1967 and 1970. IPOB has not forgotten how Ghana refused to help the children of Biafra during that war of annihilation by Nigeria Government supported by British authorities in their botched bid to annihilate Biafra from the surface of the earth.

“It is shameful and unfortunate that Ghana government and her security operatives could arrest Biafrans living in their country about 107 people in their monthly meeting, detained and deported 25 people of them to Nigeria and others were no where to found. Our family in Ghana were still looking for whereabouts of them, we are telling good people of Ghana to look for our people living in Ghana and produce them to Biafrans government or they ready for the consequences.

“We are looking for 82 citizens of Biafra in Ghana. Ghana arrested 2 years citizens of Biafra and detained her incommunicado for two weeks in Ghana prison yards without taken them to court.

“Recently Ghana government led by Nana Dankwa Akufua Ado and his security agencies renewed their hatred on the people of Biafra. Since 2019 till date Ghana government and her partners in crime have been clamping down on Biafra businesses in Ghana. This is sheer wickedness.

“We are calling on Ghanaians and friends of Ghana President to inform him that he should stop collaborating with the Fulani-controlled federal Government of Nigeria to oppress Biafra. We are keeping records. Nana Ado should not be allowed to make Ghana perpetual enemies of Biafra because of his selfish interest.” Dailypost

Biafra: Hoodlums burn trailer carrying spare parts for disobeying IPOB’s sit-at-home

A truck fully loaded with motorcycle spare parts worth millions of naira has been reportedly burnt by hoodlums for allegedly refusing to obey the Monday sit-at-home order that had been suspended by the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra.

It was gathered that the incident happened around 6 am on Monday at Eluagu Obukpa, in the Nsukka Local Government Area of Enugu State.

Sources told The PUNCH that the truck which was heading to Enugu-Ezike in the Igboeze North Local Government Area of the state was coming from Nnewi, Anambra State.

IPOB had in August declared every Monday sit-at-home in the South-East to demand the release of its leader, Nnamdi Kanu who is in the custody of the Department of State Services.

The sit-at-home which commenced on August 9, 2021, was greeted with outcry by residents of the South-East and pleas from eminent Igbo leaders for the separatist group to rescind its decision.

Though IPOB subsequently suspended the Monday sit-at-home, palpable fear has been pervading the South-East for five Mondays now as residents and traders stay indoors every Monday. Punchng

Biafra: Why South-East people still obey IPOB’s sit-at-home order – Gov Dave Umahi

The Governor of Ebonyi State, Dave Umahi, has given reasons why people in the South-East still adhere to the sit-at-home order by the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) despite its suspension.

According to Umahi, “it is a question of fear”.

He stated this while speaking with State House correspondents on Monday, following a meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari in the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
Umahi, however, warned that if the situation does not change, the economy of the South East will be affected.

The Governor said: “It is a question of fear. You know, the easiest thing to do is to carry a weapon and kill somebody, and that’s what happened in the past.

“And that’s why, you know, some people in the south-east are afraid of coming out. So it’s not a question of compliance. It’s a question of fear.

“You’ll find out that no south-east man wants to miss a day of work. They like to work, they are into trade, commerce, and they want to earn their daily living.

“So this is something that the nation Nigeria must know. And it’s something that security agencies must know. Security agencies must know that they owe south-east people the duty to protect their lives and this is the reason why it appears that in some states, there is compliance to sit at home, even though like you said, IPOB has said it’s suspended.

“But it’s the worst thing to happen to the south-east because it will destroy the economy of the south-east.” Dailypost

Biafra is your source of income — Asari Dokubo tackles IPOB leader Kanu over ‘N20m gift’

Asari Dokubo, leader of the Niger Delta Peoples Salvation Force (NDPSF), has accused Nnamdi Kanu, leader of Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), of turning the Biafran struggle into a business.

Dokubo, who made the allegation in a new video, accused Kanu of diverting funds meant for the Biafran struggle.

Both activists have been at loggerheads with each other over the quest for Biafra — the very cause that unites them.

The cold war between them resulted in the formation of the Biafra Customary Government (BCG) which Dokubo announced in March, with himself as the head.

In the video, he accused Kanu of failing to account for some funds donated for the quest for Biafra.

“They are now telling us India, Russia etc. This is how they audit accounts. This is what Biafra will look like under the criminal Nnamdi Kanu,” he said.

“They claim that they brought money to Cotonou to give to me — N20 million. We are waiting for them to bring the evidence. They came to Cotonou to meet with me and I hosted them. They did not bring a dime.

“How is that an audited account? Why do Igbo people allow you, a conman, to be conning them? Igbos, you have to rise. He wants to destroy Onyeama. He wants to destroy Ekweremadu. He wants to destroy everybody and the Igbo people are keeping quiet.

“Biafra is your business now, you have no other avenue for gainful income. It is a pity how Igbo people have fallen for this evil, but your time is up.”
He further told Kanu that the offence the IPOB leader committed will be his nemesis, adding: “I am out for you. And I will get you.”
“I just asked that our people be allowed to vote and you sent your dogs. I’ve broken their teeth,” he said.

“Nnamdi Kanu, I’m not in your category but for this, I will surely bring you down. I will destroy this evil empire that is working as a hindrance to the restoration of Biafra.” TheCableng

Police say IPOB killer squad commander, ‘Dragon’, five others killed

The Nigeria police authorities have disclosed that IPOB/ESN number 1 killer squad commander Dragon who was an ex-soldier has been killed alongside five of his members.

A source at the police high command, Abuja, who made the disclosure alleged the IPOB commander was responsible for over 70 percent of the killings carried out by ESN in the Southeast.

According to the source, “he met his waterloo along side 5 of his key members today when they attempted to attack Imo State Police Headquarters for the second time around of June 6, 2021.

“Four Ak47 rifles all belonging to police officers they killed in two police stations, 6 bombs, 2,000 rounds of AK47 ammunition, 7 AK47 magazines, two operational buses, one loaded with explosive recovered.

“The joint teams of the police and army gallantly fought and neutralized the IPOB/ESN terrorist after several minutes of fierce gun battle along works road, near the police headquarters.

“All the charms the notorious killer Joseph Uka Nnachi aka Dragon, native of Ebonyi State and his group were using, which they so much believed in have failed them once more”.

The Southeast and South South region have been in the eyes of the storm in the past few moths.

Unidentified gunmen, on Saturday, May 29, killed Mr. Okiemute Mrere, the Chief Provost of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) in Imo State. Mrere, who was until his assassination, a Deputy Superintendent of Immigration (DSI), was reportedly shot at close range.

Sources said he was in a Hilux vehicle in motion along the Owerri-Port Harcourt Road when the assailants closed in on him and shot him.

Still in Imo State, gunmen set the office of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) ablaze in Okwudor, Njaba Local Government Area of Imo State on May 29. The attack came less than 24 hours after a high court, magistrate court and a police station were set ablaze by unknown gunmen in the same area.

Ahmed Gulak, a former aide to former Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan, was killed on the night of Saturday, May 29, in Owerri, Imo State capital city. Imo State police command spokesman, Bala Elkana, said Gulak was on his way to Sam Mbakwe Airport to catch a flight when armed bandits intercepted and attacked a Toyota Camry in which he and two others were travelling.

In Abia State, also in Southeast, gunmen on Thursday May 13, 2021, attacked a police station in Bende Local Government Area (LGA) of the state, freed detainees and burnt the station.

It was gathered that a policeman on duty was shot in the leg as the hoodlums made their way out of the scene.

Investigation at Bende headquarters revealed that the gunmen, on arrival, shot into the air to scare officers away and the operation lasted for about 40 minutes without resistance.

According to sources, apart from freeing suspects in the cell and setting ablaze the station, the hoodlums also burnt two operational vehicles, three motorcycles and a power generating set.

In reaction, soldiers and policemen from the state headquarters reportedly took over the area after the criminals had gone, prompting apprehension among the citizens. That attack was the third time a government facility in Abia State was attacked within one week.

On Sunday, May 9, 2021, the Ubani Market, Umuahia, on the Umuahia-Uzoakoli highway, was vandalised. On Monday, May 10, 2021, both offices of the INEC and the National Drug Law and Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) at Ohafia Local Government Area, were also burnt. Theguardianng

Police raid Enugu church, march suspected IPOB members away

Security operatives on Sunday raided a church on Owerri Road, Enugu State, and marched suspected members of the Indigenous People of Biafra away.

In a video sighted by Punch, the security operatives, especially policemen, held guns while members of the church marched out one after the other.

The church members were seen raising their hands and searched as they were being led away by gun-wielding security operatives.

“The Nigeria police and military have just stormed a church on Owerri Road, Enugu State, molesting over 50 men, both old and young while matching them to an unknown destination.

“We are bringing this to the attention of the world. The lives of these men should not be wasted for no crime committed. They were only at a place of worship today being Sunday the 30th of May 2021 and no arms were found with them,” a source told SaharaReporters.

However, the police said 54 persons were brought to Headquarters for questioning for “gathering unlawfully” at Owerri Road, Ogui, Enugu.

Without making reference to the incident in the church, the Police Public Relations Officer, Daniel Ndukwe, in the statement, said, “54 persons were seen to be unlawfully gathered at Owerri Road, Ogui, Enugu, and brought to Headquarters for questioning.

“After nothing incriminating was found on them, the Commissioner of Police, CP Mohammed Ndatsu Aliyu, psc, addressed and cautioned them to go home and maintain peace. They all left happily, please.”

IPOB had issued a sit-at-home order in the southeast on May 31 to commemorate the death of many people during the civil war that ended about 51 years ago.
But the police Command had urged residents to “remain law-abiding and vigilant as they go about their legitimate businesses while ignoring the sit-at-home order issued by the proscribed IPOB.

It appealed to the people to report criminal elements and persons found fomenting trouble to the nearest police station. Punch

IPOB deny planned attack on Lagos - Police order probe

The Commissioner of Police in Lagos State, Mr Hakeem Odumosu, on Monday, alleged that the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra planned to attack the state.

He said the threat was being investigated, adding that security agencies would foil the plan.

Odumosu spoke at a security summit convened by the Lagos State Government in Lagos on Monday.

He said, “The command has taken notice of agitators for Oodua Republic by some Yoruba separatist groups and the threats to disrupt law and order in the state.
Twenty-four of these groups have been identified and are being closely monitored.
“Similarly, the threat of IPOB to attack soft targets in Lagos is equally being put on the radar of the command intelligence gathering and other security services in the state.

“Strategies are being put in place to neutralise their activities. The command is using this medium to solicit the support of all and sundry to be vigilant at all times and report any suspicious person or movement to security agencies. Let us adopt the slogan of ‘when you see something, say something.’”

Also, Odumosu said intelligence reports revealed that most miscreants now use abandoned buildings as hideouts and in most cases, initiation camps, adding that most of the abandoned buildings were traced to family disputes.

But the leadership of the IPOB on Monday described the allegation as baseless, false and tribal, adding it was being hatched to cause division between two friendly and loving ‘nations’ (Igbo and Yoruba).

IPOB’s Leader, Nnamdi Kanu, stated this in a statement its Director of Media and Publicity, Emma Powerful.

The group said, “The public is hereby notified that the allegations that IPOB is plotting to attack Lagos is a lie.

“The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Odumosu, who made the allegation is a former Chief Security Officer to Bola Tinubu and their intention is to fuel division between the Yoruba and Biafrans; but, it won’t work. This is not 1967.”
