Manchester United ready to agree £13million terms to secure OT star

Manchester United used Martial as their main center forward last season but this time around, the Frenchman, who is not a natural CF, has been out injured and in his place summer signing Edinson Cavani has impressed.

If reports in the media are anything to go by then Man Utd are ready to agree terms worth £13million to secure the the Uruguayan international for a further year.

According to an exclusive report covered by The Sun, the 34-year-old striker was hired on a contract worth £200,000-a week last year and after top performances this term, the Red Devils are prepared to extend his stay.

The renowned source have mentioned that Man Utd are going to offer the star striker a one year deal that will make him earn £250,000-a week i.e. £13million-a-year.

Cavani is the only proven quality out and out striker in our squad and he has done enough to deserve a contract extension.

So far, in 11 Premier League starts, the South American goal scorer has found the net 9 times and also provided 2 assists. On the other hand, his form in the Europa League has been sensational under the management of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

In just 3 starts in the competitions thus far, the former Paris Saint-Germain striker has directly contributed in 8 goals (5 goals and 3 assists). He has scored or assisted a goal every 30 minutes. Against, Roma he scored 4 goals in 2 legs to help us reach the final.

For the long term future, Man Utd should definitely sign a top center forward in the summer transfer window but letting Cavani leave would be a mistake. In your view, does the veteran forward deserve a bumper new contract? (thefaithfulmufc)

The Red Devils will now face AS Roma in the last-4 later this month.

He added, “It was a good game, Europa League is always difficult, they can create danger, but we controlled the game, had the ball a lot.

“I don’t think it was bad-tempered. We keep moving, do the right things, 2-0 again is really good for us.

“Now is the time to take the next step and win a semi-final, but we must focus on the next game, which is the league.” Dailypost

FA Cup draw: Manchester United face Liverpool in round four cracker

Holders Arsenal face a trip to either Southampton or Shrewsbury, while minnows Chorley face Premier League big guns Wolves
Manchester United have been pulled out alongside Liverpool in the undoubted glamour tie of the fourth round of the FA Cup.

The two sides will meet in the Premier League on January 17, before meeting in the FA Cup a week later.

The FA took the decision to have the fourth and fifth round draws on the same day in order to aid with fixture scheduling on account of the condensed, coronavirus-affected season.

The fourth round ties will take place over the weekend of January 23, with the fifth round in the week of February 8.

Holders Arsenal required extra time before seeing off Newcastle to reach the fourth round and they will take on Southampton or Shrewsbury.

Manchester City lifted the trophy in 2019, and eased into the fourth round courtesy of a comfortable win over Birmingham and they face a trip to Cheltenham.

Liverpool lead the way in the Premier League, but have not won the FA Cup since 2006. They eased past a depleted Aston Villa side in round three to set up a clash with big rivals Manchester United who have started 2021 in style.

Chelsea snapped a poor run of form over the Christmas and New Year period by seeing off Morecambe to set up a meeting with Luton.

Crawley caused a huge shock to dump out Premier League side Leeds and their reward is a clash against Bournemouth - with the carrot of a meeting with Fulham or Burnley in the fifth round.

National League North side Chorley dumped Derby out of the competition and will meet Wolves in round four. Should they progres there is a potential meeting with holders Arsenal in round five. (Goal)

Scott McTominay scores twice in three minutes as Man United thrash Leeds 6-2

Manchester United demolished Leeds 6-2 in the first league meeting between the sides for 16 years to bolster their Premier League title aspirations on Sunday.

Scott McTominay and Bruno Fernandes scored twice as United’s counter-attacking threat tore apart Marcelo Bielsa’s attacking approach to move the Red Devils up to third, five points behind leaders Liverpool with a game in hand.

The much-anticipated clash as a historic rivalry was renewed lacked the fervour of a full Old Trafford in the stands, but more than delivered on the field.

There was little doubt about the result after just three minutes, though, as McTominay scored twice in an incredible start.

The Scotland international burst forward from his deep role in midfield to smash home Fernandes’s pass from outside the area and then slotted home Anthony Martial’s through ball.

Bielsa was among the finalists for FIFA’s coach of the year this week for guiding Leeds back to the top flight.

However, the Argentine’s determination to play in the same wide-open style no matter the opposition backfired as the visitors were 4-0 down inside 37 minutes.

Fernandes pounced on a loose ball inside the area after another fast counter-attack before another Leeds’ Achilles’ heel, defending set-pieces, was exposed when Victor Lindelof swept home Martial’s flick on from a corner.

Leeds had plenty of chances themselves at the other end as Patrick Bamford slashed wide when clean through on David De Gea when the score was at 2-0.

However, they did not get on the scoreboard until four minutes before half-time when captain Liam Cooper headed in off the inside of the post from a corner.

De Gea was restored to the United goal in place of Dean Henderson, who had a night to forget in a 3-2 win at Sheffield United on Thursday, and the Spaniard showed why he remains Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s number one with a stunning save to prevent Raphinha making it 4-2.

Daniel James came within minutes of becoming a Leeds player in the January transfer window of 2019 before his move from Swansea collapsed and the Welsh international moved to United six months later.

Solskjaer handed James a rare start, knowing his speed on the break would cause problems, and he got his reward for an impressive display when he latched onto McTominay’s pass to drill low past Illan Meslier for United’s fifth 24 minutes from time.

Moments later Leeds had been hit for six as Martial was upended inside the penalty area and Fernandes rolled home United’s 10th penalty of the season.

The scoring did not stop there as Stuart Dallas fired a wonderful effort into the top corner to the Leeds deficit.

Meslier made a series of late saves to deny United matching Liverpool’s seven-goal thrashing of Crystal Palace on Saturday, while Jack Harrison should have added another for Leeds late on as a breathless encounter ended with 43 attempts on goal.

United had previously struggled to match their perfect away form in the league this season, but just a second win in seven games at Old Trafford propels Solskjaer’s men back into title contention as Tottenham, Chelsea and Manchester City have dropped points in the past week.

Defeat leaves Leeds still in 14th, but with a seven-point cushion above the relegation zone.
