Osinbajo leads energy mission to USA, meets Kamala Harris, W’Bank group Seeks $410b to deliver transition plan

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, yesterday, departed Abuja for the United States of America to seek global partnerships and support for Nigeria’s recently launched Energy Transition Plan.

While in the U.S., Osinbajo will meet US Vice President, Kamala Harris; US Secretary of Energy, Jennifer Granholm; Secretary of Treasury, Janet Yellen, and President of World Bank Group, David Malpass, among others.

Osinbajo is leading Nigeria’s Energy Transition Implementation Working Group (ETWG), with meetings starting today, to promote the plan and secure global support from the US government, the private sector, and other development partners.

The ETWG, which is chaired by the Vice President, comprises relevant ministers and other top government officials. Nigeria’s Energy Transition Plan, officially launched, last week, at a global virtual event, is a homegrown, data-backed and multi-pronged strategy developed for attainment of the 2060 net-zero emissions commitment in five critical sectors: power, cooking, oil and gas, transport and industry.

Nigeria needs $410 billion to deliver the Transition Plan by 2060. Among other highlights, the plan needs at least $10 billion per year above business-as-usual spending for effective implementation.

At the launch, the World Bank and a renewable energy organisation, Sun Africa, pledged $1.5 billion each, totaling an initial $3 billion investment to support implementation of the Transition Plan.

I didn’t endorse Buhari in 2015, rejected Osinbajo’s offer – Femi Kuti

Nigerian Afrobeat singer and son of Music legend, Fela Anikulapo-Kuti has denied endorsing President Muhammadu Buhari in

A Twitter user identified as @McAnthony had accused Kuti of endorsing Buhari and that he is likely to support Tinubu’s

ticket in 2023.

@McAnthony wrote: “Femi Kuti endorsed Buhari in 2015, I won’t be surprised if he supports batshit. He does not matter in

the scheme of things.

“Baba you welcomed Osinbajo to your house.”

Responding, Femi stated that although he was approached by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo to campaign for Buhari in 2015, he

rejected the offer because of his father.

His tweets read: “How you all come up with fabricated lies beats me.

“But why all the lies? You heard me endorse him or ever anyone? Thank goodness the video is on YouTube.

“To be clear, Osinbajo came to my house to ask me to join their campaign and I told him no, rumours started to spread that

I supported them.

“When he came in front of the crowd was my opportunity to clear it. Go and watch and come back.” Dailypost

Why VP Osinbajo chose Nigerian hospital for surgery— Presidency

Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo chose to undergo a surgical procedure on his right femur (tigh bone) at a local hospital because “He had confidence in Nigerian doctors both at home and abroad,” a consultant who operated on the VP has revealed.

Sunday PUNCH reports that Osinbajo, on Saturday, successfully underwent leg surgery on his leg at the Duchess International Hospital, Ikeja, Lagos.

The operation is “possibly related” to a longstanding injury associated with a game of squash, the VP had revealed in a tweet.

According to a senior official in the Presidency who pleaded anonymity, some of the government and private practice doctors of the Vice President suggested he travels out of the country as this is “often usually considered by such a class of patients and at times the option could also seem more seamless.”

“But he insisted on using a Nigerian hospital and medical experts.

“The VP’s view is that most people don’t even know the facilities exist here. Besides, we have some of the best doctors available anywhere,” the official stated.

Speaking on the VP’s decision, the founder of the Reddington Hospital who is also one of the doctors coordinating the surgery, Dr. Yemi Onabowale, said “the VP was clear that he had confidence in Nigerian doctors both at home and abroad and would prefer they handle the operation.”

According to Onabowale, Osinbajo’s preference to have the surgery done in Nigeria is also being regarded as a major boost for the government’s oft-stated objective of a reversed medical tourism as some voices in the healthcare sector have expressed excitement at the VP’s choice.

He also argued that undergoing the operation locally would not only encourage Nigerian doctors who, he said, are among the best anywhere in the world, but it would also help develop the capacity here in Nigeria and further build on the medical infrastructure in the country.

After the surgery late Saturday, the hospital management revealed that Osinbajo would be discharged within the next few days. (Punchng)

2023 presidency: RCCG told to stop promoting Osinbajo

Ahead of the 2023 general elections, a socio-political activist, Reno Omokri has called on the Redeemed Christian Church of God, RCCG, to focus on preaching Christ and refrain from promoting the Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo.

Omokri made the call while reacting to comments from Head of Politics and Governance of RCCG, Pastor Timothy Olaniyan, who claimed that the Vice President remained the best candidate to succeed President Muhammadu Buhari.

DAILY POST reports that prior to Osinbajo’s declaration to run for the office of the Nigerian President in 2023, the RCCG set up a Politics Directorate across the county to support members vying for elective positions.

According to Omokri, the church can pray for the VP but not campaign for him.

In a post on his verified Facebook page, he urged the General Overseer, Pastor E. A. Adeboye to call his members to order.

He said, “‪It is very dangerous for the Redeemed Christian Church of God to politically promote Osinbajo. Churches are meant to promote Christ. If churches and mosques start promoting candidates, then, they are no longer religious organisations and should start paying tax!‬

“It is alright for the candidates to visit the church and Pastor Adeboye for prayers and his blessings. But when the Redeemed Christian Church of God sets up a politics directorate, and the head of that unit starts openly campaigning for Osinbajo, in his official capacity, then things are falling apart!

“‪G.O Adeboye should call RCCG’s political directorate to order before they start what they can’t finish!”‬ Dailypost
