EPL: Haaland will not solve Man City’s problems – Pep Guardiola

Manchester City manager, Pep Guardiola, has insisted that Erling Haaland will “not solve all our problems”.

Guardiola, looking back on their 2-0 win over West Ham thanks to Haaland’s brace, also noted he wants to make the 22-year-old a better player.

The Norway striker only joined City in a £51million transfer from Borussia Dortmund this summer.

Having failed to score during the 3-1 defeat to Liverpool in the Community, Haaland netted a first-half penalty and second-half strike at the London Stadium.

“He (Haaland) is a threat for us now, but he is not going to solve all our problems.

“He will add something to our team. But if we just rely on him, we will be making a mistake,” Guardiola said.

City are looking to win the league title for the third consecutive season. Dailypost

CL: Guardiola explains why he screamed at Mahrez during Leipzig win

Manchester City manager, Pep Guardiola, has said he was unhappy with Riyad Mahrez for ignoring his half-time instructions during their 6-3 win over RB Leipzig in the Champions League.

It was Guardiola’s 87th victory in the competition, overtaking legendary Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger into third place.

The game was also the highest-scoring European game of the Spaniard’s career, with Nathan Ake, Jack Grealish, Joao Cancelo, Gabriel Jesus and Mahrez all getting on the scoresheet.

Despite his side netting six goals, in the 63rd minute with City 4-2 ahead, Guardiola called Mahrez over and berated him, screaming in his face.

Grealish also received similar treatment from the former Barcelona and Bayern Munich boss.

When asked why he was so unhappy with Mahrez and Grealish, Guardiola told BT Sport: “We spoke in half-time about the way we had to do it and they didn’t do it. But it happens.

“They [Leipzig] are so good, they make four players in the build-up to attract you, and after they find you behind the holding midfielders, where there are a lot of players, when the ball goes outside put it inside.

“And after they are so fast to attack in behind. So it’s not absolutely easy to control it.” Dailypost

EPL: Pep Guardiola reacts as Man United defeat Man City at Etihad

Manchester City boss, Pep Guardiola, has reacted to his side’s Premier League 2-0 defeat against Manchester United on Sunday.

Guardiola insisted that Man City were not “clinical” enough in attacking areas against Man United, adding that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side was so fast on the counter attack.

Man United defeated Man City at Etihad, thanks to two goals from Bruno Fernandes and Luke Shaw.

Despite the defeat, City are still on top of the Premier League table with 11 points ahead of second place, Man United, after 28 games.

“It was a fantastic game. United make incredibly high pressing, and they are so fast on the counter. We played well. Unfortunately, we couldn’t be clinical upfront, so we congratulate United, ” Guardiola told Sky Sports.

“We will be the news because we lost. But the news is 21 victories in a row. There are still 30 points to play, and we have to start to win again.

“That’s football. Sometimes it happens. We played much better than the game against West Ham which we won.

“It’s always the same. We win a game and then move onto the next one. It’s the same here. We lose this, so we go to the next one. It’s a lesson. Even at 0-2, we played really well.”

Man City’s next match is against Southampton on Wednesday. Dailypost

'Mourinho teams are like this' - Pep Guardiola laments Man City's inability to break down Spurs

The Catalan was left frustrated while adding that the opposition followed their gameplan perfectly

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola reflected on how his side failed to break down Tottenham on Saturday, adding that Spurs played in a manner that is very reflective of manager Jose Mourinho.

Mourinho and Spurs got the last laugh on Guardiola's side, taking down the visitors 2-0 at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Spurs took the lead early though Son Heung-min, who fired home within five minutes thanks to a City defensive lapse.

After both sides saw a goal waved off in the first half, substitute Giovani Lo Celso all but sealed the points in the 65th minute, putting Spurs 2-0 ahead for good.

City maintained 67 per cent of the possession while outshooting their opponents 22-4 but failed to truly break down the Spurs defence.

And, after the match, Guardiola lamented his side's inability to create in the final third while praising Spurs for a typical Mourinho performance.

"It could be better, we played similar to how have all season. We did not defend good for the first goal. They then defended so deep, they defended with six and it was not easy," Guardiola told BBC Match of the Day.

"We had our chances, but we couldn’t score and they made two or three chances on the counterattack and we lost the game.

“We knew before the game that you cannot give them the first goal. We had more chances than them but we lost. Mourinho’s teams are like this, you make a mistake and they punish you on the counterattack.

"It is not easy, Harry Kane and Ndombele are on halfway, the space is so difficult, our possession play was good, but football is the boxes and that is where we were not good."

With the loss, City sit 10th in the league, while Spurs move atop the Premier League for the time being.

City will now look ahead to a trip to Greece as they take on Olympiacos in the Champions League as they sit atop their group with nine points from three games.

Spurs, meanwhile, are off until Thursday when they will face Ludogorets at home in the Europa League. (Goal)

Leeds vs Man City: Pep Guardiola reveals who he admires most in football

Manchester City, Pep Guardiola, has named Leeds United boss, Marcelo Bielsa, as the person he admires most in world football.

Bielsa and Guardiola come face-to-face on Saturday afternoon, when City travel to Elland Road in the Premier League.

“He is probably the person I admire the most in world football – as a manager and as a person.

“I think he is the most authentic manager of all time, in terms of how he conducts his teams. He is unique.

“Nobody can imitate him, it’s impossible, especially his behaviour as a person on and off the pitch.

“I was fortunate sometimes to meet him, I don’t see him quite as much now. But when I get the pleasure to spend time with him, it’s always inspirational for me.

“The value of the manager does not depend on how many titles he has.

“My teams won more titles than him, buy in terms of knowledge of the game, I am still away from him.

“His teams are always a joy to watch, how honest they are, they always want to attack and produce good football for spectators,” Guardiola said. Dailypost
